20 Mule Team Borax (Review & Free Product Coupon Giveaway)

I have been housekeeping for many, many years and during that time raised five children using cloth diapers.  I had heard of 20 Mule Team Borax but don't recall ever using it.  Frankly, I may have missed an opportunity to make life a bit easier for myself as a very much over-worked SAHM.

When I was presented the opportunity to evalulate and write a review of 20 Mule Team Borax, I thought, "Why not? It just might somehow help to make life easier." (even at this stage of my life)
First of all, I learned that it is a 100% natural product and safe for folks and for the environment.  That is a serious plus!
Secondly, 20 Mule Team Borax is a cleaning tool around the house.  Freshen the carpet. Clean the toilet bowl by letting 1/2 cup work overnight in the bowl. Get rid of fleas!  Freshen the drain in the sink or bathroom by putting 1/2 cup down the drain, wait 30 minutes, and then flush with fresh water.

Thirdly, in the laundry! Put 1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax in your wash along with your regular detergent as a boost for cleaning and freshening.  It is a natural water softener which helps your detergent work more efficiently. Un-sour those sour towels! (Hmmm.... I really don't believe un-sour is a word, but it works here.)
So I have a box and I'm using it for a variety of purposes around the house.  Most likely I'll keep a box of this product on hand to use and feel good about what I'm pouring down the drain, using in the laundry, or freshening the toilet bowl.  It is a "green" all natural product.
Why the name "20 Mule Team Borax"?
Because it took a 20-Mule-Team to haul it out
and get it to market!
About Borax: The common name for sodium tetraborate is BORAX. Sodium tetraborate is a naturally occurring substance that is produced by the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes. It is used in a variety of products including cosmetics, medicines, ceramics, and building products.  It is extensively used in the glass industry.

One of the world's largest deposits of sodium tetraborate was discovered in California in 1913 but it was being used world-wide much earlier than that.

  1. I would never have thought to use it to clean the bathroom to remove soap scum. I use it as a laundry booster and have used it for sometime after first having extra left over from making "flubber" or "gak" for a girls science class. You add glue and something else and some kind of coloring.
