Oz Naturals™ "A Leader In Natural Skin Care" presents Hyaluronic Acid Serum with Vitamin C

This is the second item from Oz Naturauls™ that I have had the opportunity to try and  share with my readers here at Chat With Vera. I have tried several hyaluroic acid serums and most have been very appealing and pleasant to use. I love, absolutely love, products that give me that edge against the ravages of aging. No one wants to look older, though it is inevitable, because we all age. However, taking care of our skin with products to slow the process is really beneficial in actually slowing down the appearance of aged skin.

This Oz Naturals Hyaluronic Acid contains 5% of this effective ingredient. There is the added benefit of Vitamin C to further benefit one's skin. Very appealing, indeed, is the fact that Oz Naturals are just that - natural.

Oz Naturals serum is thick, opaque liquid in a dropper bottle. I use one dropper full of the serum and apply it to my entire face (be careful of the eye area, though) and neck. After allowing it to dry, I apply my moisturizer. I am using the Oz Naturals™ morning and evening. Using this good serum seems to add a glow to my skin and it seems to me that my skin's texture looks better. Oz Naturals is a good product that I feel good about recommending to my readers.

Utilizing her personal experience of skin issues, that she understands that when your skin is unhealthy it can negatively affect your self-esteem. After try tons of products over the years she was always left with the same skin issues as before. Sometimes even worse than before. Angela knows how disheartening this can be, especially when so many skin care products make huge claims, and simply do not deliver. It's especially frustrating when the cost of those products are hardly affordable, and you realize once again that you've wasted your money.

While it's true that beautiful skin is also hereditary, healthy skin comes from taking care of the inside and outside of our bodies. However, finding the right products for your skin can be the toughest part of the equation. This is why OZ Naturals was founded, to create healthy, premium skin care products to help those who weren't naturally born with perfect skin, to obtain more perfect skin. The kind of skin that everyone deserves to have.

Double Cross by DiAnn Mills

About the book: FBI Agent Laurel Evertson’s investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she’s vowed to forget Wilmington—and what she sacrificed to put him away—he is now her best lead.

Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer’s next targets, and he’ll do anything to protect his family—even force interagency cooperation. But he’s quickly drawn to Laurel’s empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead . . . even if it means teaming up with a felon.

As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the crosshairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington’s claims of redemption, or if he’s leading them straight into a double cross.

My thoughts: The author, DiAnn Mills, is consummate story weaver. Relying on research done in person with real Houston based FBI agents and having her own story platform of ideas, she developed characters realistic to their professional lives and intricate in their personal lives.

The two main characters are professional law enforcers - Laura is FBI and Daniel is Houston Police. They are literally thrown together on a professional and personal stage when a scam is perpetrated on the elderly in the form of insurance and illegal money transfers. Daniel's determination to stop this is deeply planted in his very being because his own grandparents, who raised him as a child, are victims. Laura faces her own nemesis in the form of a former criminal scam runner she was instrumental in convicting and who has vowed to take her down.

I absolutely loved Daniel's grandparents. They are such a charming, lovable older couple. He has Alzheimer's disease, drifting in and out of reality, and she is a gun-toting lady that isn't afraid of much but has loads of charm and good sense.

While the story is very much contemporary, one can't help but realize that the wild and woolly west is still very much alive in Houston with terrifying gun action and chases.

A good read and one that is faith based.

Whatever Wanda! (Shine Bright Kids) by Christy Ziglar & illustrated by Paige Billin-Frye [Review & Giveaway]

ISBN: 9780824956684
Hardcover $14.99
About the book: The third title in the Shine Bright Kids series, Whatever Wanda! teaches children the importance of having a good attitude.
Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment! She doesn't want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won't participate in any of the events or join in with her friends. Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that:

'Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!'

My thoughts: Willow and Marvin were the first two kids in the Shine Bright Kids stories learning lessons in life and behavior. Now we're meeting Wanda. Whatever Wanda has a poor attitude and graces everyone with her "whatever," uncooperative attitude.

When presented the opportunity to engage in a day of fun activities with her family and the whole community, she doesn't want to do so and makes her disgruntled attitude known. As the day progresses, she begins to realize that her friends, Willow and Marvin (remember they are Shine Bright Kids, too), are having so much fun.

Then Whatever Wander" yields to an attitude adjustment. Good job. Now she can have some fun with the others. A sweet, well-written story that teaches children valuable lessons. The illustrations are charming and give such pleasure to the reader (and listener). Love these Shine Bright Kids books.

About Shine Bright Kids: Choose Right. Shine Bright. The Shine Bright Kids series provides children and their families with the tools to teach the importance of making good choices. The series explores such topics as: using good judgment, taking responsibility, having a positive attitude, and demonstrating perseverance. Ages 4 to 8.

Buried Secrets (Men of Valor Series) by Irene Hannon [Review & Family Christian Certificate Giveaway]

About the book: After seven years as a Chicago homicide detective, Lisa Grant has hit a wall. Ready for a kinder, gentler life, she takes a job as a small-town police chief. But the discovery of a human skeleton by a construction crew at the edge of town taxes the resources of her department. A call for assistance brings detective Mac McGregor, an ex-Navy SEAL, to her doorstep. As they work to solve the mystery behind the unmarked grave, danger begins to shadow them. Someone doesn't want this dead person telling any tales--and will stop at nothing to make certain a life-shattering secret stays buried.

My thoughts: As this story begins, a trio of young folks are involved in the stealth burial of another of their group. Circumstances surrounding the "why" they need to dispose of the body in secrecy are not revealed. That leaves the reader spinning reasons throughout the story. We are brought forward in time to the current day when the three are again brought tenaciously together because of their buried secret.

While this is one of the "Men of Valor" stories, it seems to me that the primary focus is on the female protagonist as she seeks to unravel the clues for the recently unearthed body.

Personalities and flawed characters are fleshed out by the author as Lisa Grant uses her formerly used skills honed by her position with the FBI in Chicago to solve this long time secret. As Lisa and "Man of Valor," Mac McGregor, team up to bring justice for the person so long buried. Draw together further by romantic feelings toward each other, they determine to table this interest until they are finished working the case.

As usual, Irene Hannon has written an exciting story where faith is the root of her characters' hearts. Find it HERE on www.FamilyChristian.com

Stanley the Farmer by William Bee [Review & Giveaway]

ISBN13: 9780857551115
Peachtree Publishers $14.95
Stanley has been seen here on Chat With Vera a couple of times already. Check him out .... Stanley's Garage and Stanley the Builder.

This sweet series of books will entertain and educate the young child. They are most likely suited for the little boy, but let's don't forget that girls love to learn about farms, garages, and building as well.

Let's take a look at what Stanley is up to now. He also has a special helper, Shamus. Little Woo helps a bit, too.

I like that Stanley's tools are all pictured in the front of the book so these pages can be used to help learn identification of tools. He has a very busy day preparing the field, spreading manure (phew!), and planting. At the end of the day, he does what Stanley always does.... bathes, eats, and goes to bed.

A delightful series and one I can recommend for your special young child.

New kid's products from Dial - Dial Baby Body & Hair Wash and Dial Kid's Foaming Hand Wash [Review & Giveaway]

Again, Dial Soap has given the consumer products to meet their daily needs and products on which Mom can depend. Today we're looking at the new Dial Baby Body & Hair Wash  and Dial Kid's Foaming Hand Wash.

First, let's get those kiddies ready for bath by preparing the tub with nice warm water. Get a favorite toy ready. And have wash cloth and towel handy. I was given the opportunity to review the Dial "0 to 2 year old, fragrance free, gentle formula" product. There are others geared specifically for your child who is older but for whom you still wish to have a children's, pediatric approved, and safe product.

Kiddies love bubbles and this lathers nicely but not too much. Doesn't burn or sting the eyes. Doesn't irritate sensitive skin.

Product Information (from Dial) - Developed with Pediatric Dermatologists, this tear-free formula is pH balanced and hypoallergenic, with no parabens or artificial dyes, for babies’ perfect skin. Gently removes environmental dirt for a head to toe clean! See more at: More about Dial Baby Body & Hair Wash

<<<<<<<<-------->>>>>>>>>
Now, your kiddie's hands need washing. Pull up the little step stool - snug to the counter. Have that wee one step on it. Now the fun begins!

They just LOVE, I mean LOVE, their own foaming soap! Let them depress the plunger. Usually one little "serving" will suffice. But you can afford to be liberal if it makes them happy. Now scrub a rub dub. Twist and turn. Bubble all around. Hands are clean. (The old adage is to get them really clean you wash them while singing Happy Birthday To You.) Rinse. Grab that favorite little hand towel. Rub-a-rub and get them dry.

Step down from the step stool. Put it back in place. Now we're clean. We're finished.

This works at home or Grandma's house. Little ones love their own Dial Kid's Foaming Hand Wash.

Product Information (from Dial) - Makes hand washing fun for all ages! Hypoallergenic, no artificial dyes, no parabens, pH balanced and gentle on kids’ skin! See more at: Dial Kid's Foaming Hand Wash

Two brand new products from Body Merry- Super 6 Serum Age Defense & Super C-22 Moisturizer

I was given the opportunity to review two brand new products from Body Merry that are "super" loaded with ingredients highly touted to provide natural skin care to fight the aging skin process.

I used these two products daily for the past few days. I really like that these products are made of natural and organic ingredients and that they are made in the USA in an FDA registered and GMP compliant facility. It is great that it is not tested on animals, too.

The Super 6 Anti Aging Defense Serum was applied first on cleansed face. In my opinion, using the recommended 4 drops barely spreads over the face, but that is the  maximum number of drops recommended. This serum is a reddish color in the bottle and after application, my face had a reddish tint. This discoloration did not last, though.

The directions for the Super 6 Serum state to apply a moisturizer after using the Super 6 Serum. I applied the Body Merry Super C-22 Moisturizer. At first I used two pumps of this moisturizer. It was too much. I found that one pump was adequate. I spread this over my face and neck using upward, sweeping motions. This moisturizer has a definite citrus fragrance that I found o.k.

I have not noticed any fantastic improvements in my skin during this trial period, nor have I seen any problems. I like that this product is suitable for men or women to use.

I recommend that anyone who desires the best for their skin apply a good moisturizer daily. Twice a day is even better. Preceding your moisturizer by using a quality serum further enhances the optimum performance of your moisturizer product.  Body Merry creates several good good products. The two new products - Super 6 Serum and Super C-22 Moisturizer might be just the right products for you.

The Ride by Kayla Davidson and illustrated by Kim Felts

About the book: Learning to ride a bicycle is a risky challenge for Olivia. She avoids this risk and even turns down ice cream, her favorite snack. What will encourage Olivia to overcome her fear and take a chance?

The Ride gives children hope and understanding. Regardless of the size of the task or regardless of the person's age, gaining strength and courage from the Lord is only a prayer away.

In this, her second book, Kayla Davidson creates a fun, playful way to teach children how to include God in their everyday lives.

Review: The Ride is a story of how a young girl overcomes her fear of riding her bike without her training wheels by relying of God. The encouragement of her supportive mother, the lure of a trip to the ice cream parlor, and the use of prayer help Olivia overcome her fear.

While the story is sweet and I always love a story where one’s trust in God is encouraged, I found the lovely art a bit off with the story. The child using the training wheels is pictured as a school age girl who appears older than one would expect a child to be who uses training wheels. But this is just my opinion.

The illustrations are lovely. The story is sweet. The lesson learned wonderful!  “I can do all things with Christ.”

It's Spring . . .

I realize that the calendar declared Spring to have begun 20 days ago, but the trees denied that Spring had "sprung."

Today, I drove a country road or so and saw wondrous visions that Spring has truly arrive.

First, I saw that a green haze – somewhat like a mist or fog, but not wet – was draped over everything. Everything seemed muted through this green haze.

Next, I noticed that the woods were filled with large trees lavishly sprayed with a green fringe. This is a lovely “Spring green” or light green. Not the deep hue of summer. What a beautiful site to behold the unfurling of leaves on God’s majestic trees.

And then I noticed that the woods were abounding in naturally occurring Red Bud and Dogwood Trees. Folks have graciously planted lots of these in their yards as well and this is a beautiful site to behold.

All-in-all, my ride along the highways of North Carolina was restful, pleasant, and joyful.

How was your ride today?

Dial® has a reputation of long-standing for providing quality products for our home and our families. Recently they have incorporated a brand new line of bath washes and hand soaps that include Marula Oil which Dial® is calling "Miracle Oil."

If you search the internet for Marula Oil, you will find that it is a new buzz in cosmetics and skin care. It isn't so new, though, as  its use has been know for years. "Marula oil is extracted from the kernels (nuts) of the Marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea), from the Anacardiaceae family. Marula oil is traditionally used in cosmetics..." (Wikipedia)

I have found the fragrance of this new Dial® Miracle Oil Hand Soap to be simply enchanting to me. I just want to hold my hands up close to my face as I wash with this lovely hand soap and inhale. Nice!

The Creole Princess (Gulf Coast Chronicles, Book Two) by award-winning author Beth White

About the book: Torn between loyalties to family and flag, one young woman is about to discover that her most important allegiance is to her heart.

It is 1776, and all along the eastern seaboard the American struggle for independence rages. But in the British-held southern port of Mobile, Alabama, the conflict brewing is much quieter--though no less deadly.

Lyse Lanier may be largely French in heritage, but she spends most of her time in the company of the ebullient daughter of the British commander of Mobile. When a charming young Spanish merchant docks in town, Lyse is immediately struck by his easy wit and flair for the dramatic. But is he truly who he makes himself out to be? Spies abound, and Spain has yet to choose a side in the American conflict. Is Lyse simply an easy mark for Rafael Gonzalez to exploit? Or are his overtures of love as genuine as Spanish gold?

With spectacular detail that brings the cultural gumbo of the Colonial Gulf Coast alive, Beth White invites you to step into a world of intrigue and espionage from a little-known slice of the American Revolutionary War.

My thoughts: For someone who enjoys history to get their hands on a piece of historical fiction written by a "history nerd," you have indeed a pleasurable read. I read the first in the series, Pelican Brides, and The Creole Princess picks up a couple of generations later with the historical time frame that of the American Revolution.

Little known history of the Gulf Coast is brought to life as the story unfolds where the cities Mobile, New Orleans, and Pensacola have pivotal roles in the shaping of America's rich colonial history. Peopled by French, English, and Spanish each holding political views primarily those of their own countries, the characters develop into persons whose political alliances drift toward and align with the American Revolution.

Previous generations who settled in the Mobile area had intermarried with slaves and Indians and their children and grandchildren have the mixed blood that some simply don't tolerate well in free society. This impacts the life of female protagonist, Lyse, and of her family. While the strong class distinction of the Southern colonies and the institution of slavery were not present in this story, it was, never-the-less, a very real barrier.

The fictional characters interacting with real people from history (of course, I realize it is fictionalized) is good.  I enjoyed learning more of American Revolutionary history as it took place along the Gulf Coast and it's impact on provisions and funding of the armies.

A good read and I'm looking forward to Beth White's third book in the Gulf Coast Chronicles.

Beth White is the award-winning author of The Pelican Bride. A native Mississippian, she teaches music at an inner-city high school in historic Mobile, Alabama. Her novels have won the American Christian Fiction Writers' Carol Award, the RT Book Club Reviewers' Choice Award, and the Inspirational Reader's Choice Award. Learn more at www.bethwhite.net.

A Sparrow of Terezin by Kristy Cambron (A Hidden Masterpiece Novel) - Review & Giveaway

About the book: Present Day—With the grand opening of her new art gallery and a fairytale wedding just around the corner, Sera James feels she’s stumbled into a charmed life—until a brutal legal battle against fiancé William Hanover threatens to destroy the perfectly planned future she’s planned before it even begins. Now, after an eleventh-hour wedding ceremony and a callous arrest, William faces a decade in prison for a crime he never committed, and Sera must battle the scathing accusations that threaten her family and any hope for a future.

1942—Kája Makovsky narrowly escaped occupied Prague in 1939, and was forced to leave her half-Jewish family behind. Now a reporter for the Daily Telegraph in England, Kája discovers the terror has followed her across the Channel in the shadowy form of the London Blitz. When she learns Jews are being exterminated by the thousands on the continent, Kája has no choice but to return to her mother city, risking her life to smuggle her family to freedom and peace.

cambron1Connecting across a century through one little girl, a Holocaust survivor with a foot in each world, these two women will discover a kinship that springs even in the darkest of times. In this tale of hope and survival, Sera and Kája must cling to the faith that sustains and fight to protect all they hold dear—even if it means placing their own futures on the line.

My thoughts: Stepping onto the pages of a historical novel can be a journey of the heart, mind, and spirit. Our heart is moved by the people and events as the author fleshes out the story. Our mind is engaged with a particular piece of history that draws us toward study and research. And our spirit is moved at the way God moves in the affairs of man.

Kristy Cambron captured my mind and readership with her first book, The Butterfly and the Violin (check my review). Now she has flawlessly continued the story here in The Sparrow of Terezin. Pages are mingled with a two-pronged story - current day and war torn 1940s Europe. While reading The Butterfly and the Violin first enhances the reader's enjoyment of the Sparrow book, the reader can begin with book two with quick identification of characters and involvement in the story.

My curiosity often interrupts my fictional reading and I divert my attention to a bit of research. Terezin was a concentration camp (or "ideal" Jewish settlement). Interned there were over 32,000 - men, women, and children. This was a place where noteworthy Jewish individuals in the arts - performers, composers, and artists - were interned. Works of art were created within the walls of this place of sorrow. Wikipedia

Two romances - one contemporary, one in war torn Europe. Glimpses into a Nazi concentration camp and its treatment of innocents - children. The past connected to the present. Written by a wordsmith that will truly capture the reader.

Well, it is a toy and it is MORE than a toy. It is a safety net for moms bathing those little kiddies. Isn't ducky cute? I just love him.
video
Did you see how duckie is a rapid change artist as the water goes from one temperature to the next in rapid succession? Just that quickly, your baby could be scalded! Now you don't have to risk it!

When my kiddies were wee little ones, we only had our hands, elbows, and intuition to make certain the bath water was neither too hot nor too cold. Not any more! Look how ducky plays in the water and also gets across to mom that the water is too hot! Or the water has gotten too cold for the little one playing away.

Now, did I tell you that I love duckies in the water? Well Sir Duckymeter goes a step further in making me love duckies. I recommend this "toy" as a safety net for moms of  wee little ones!

HYKO- Hyaluronic & Kojic Acid Anti-Aging Skin Brightening Serum from BAUANA Naturals

I am impressed with this serum.

Hyaluronic acid seems to be a buzz-word-ingredient these days in face care and I have tried several brands. The BAUANA Naturals company has included Kojic to the mix. My skin seems to look better since using this product for a couple of weeks. I like hyaluronic serums and the addition of Kojic seems to really help.

I have been applying the HYKO Serum on my cleansed face while lightly massaging the skin with my hands in a circular, upward motion. The skin feels slightly tightened. I then apply moisturizer followed by makeup. On days I go "makeup free" I follow the same product applications to care for my skin. This is repeated at bedtime.

I have several dark spots on my face and using the hyaluronic acid seems to be helping lighten them. I anticipate to further reduce their darkness by using the HYKO serum.

I especially like that this product is organic, natural, paraben free, and made in the USA.

Product information (from Bauana Naturals) - Why Is HA Good For You? - HA is an important natural component of your skin. Wrinkles and other skin damage from HA loss show up around late 30s. Preserving or regaining HA is a goal of many skin care products to keep skin supple and youthful-looking. Kojic acid is a more recent remedy for treating pigment problems and age spots.

Check out www.BauanaNaturals.com and read about this product and the ingredients with quotes from WebMD article.

A Harvest of Hope by Lauraine Snelling (Song of Blessing #2)

About the book: Just a few short weeks into her year-long nurse training assignment at the Blessing Hospital, Miriam Antonio is called home to Chicago, where her mother is gravely ill. With siblings to care for, Miriam pleads to be allowed to finish her training in Chicago. Her nursing supervisor grants her a brief reprieve but extracts a promise that Miriam will soon return to Blessing and fulfill her commitment.

While in Chicago, Miriam has tried to get Trygve Knutson and Blessing out of her mind, but his letters make that impossible. Trygve is busy building a house, hoping he can convince Miriam to return to North Dakota and marry him. Torn between Trygve's love and her family's needs, she doesn't know what to do.
When Miriam finally returns to Blessing, she buries herself in her work. But no matter how hard she tries to put it off, she has some life-changing decisions to make about her future, her family...and the man who is never far from her thoughts.

My thoughts: Lauraine Snelling is a long-standing beloved Christian fiction author, and I’ve read her work in the past. When the opportunity to review Harvest of Hope set in the early 1900s in North Dakota and whose main female protagonist is a nurse, I was excited to be able to read it

I am sadly not happy with the book. Frankly, when I chose a work of fiction to read, I am doing so because I wish to relax and not work so hard to engage with the characters or story. There are so many characters who are sprinkled on the pages as though the reader should be familiar with them. So perhaps the author and publisher expect to appeal to an audience of readers who follow all the author’s books in correct sequence and never forget a character from one book to the next.  I have read other books where the author builds on a previous book in the series, but this one seems most difficult to grasp just who is who and how they fit into the scheme of things.

There is an extensive and large family tree at the beginning of the book which helps somewhat for the reader to place individuals relationally. I often utilize these when books span more than one generation. I find them helpful. So thank you, Ms. Snelling for including that.

Thank you, too, for the generous and sweet hearts of the characters and the way that those in the medical community are so caring in this non-developed countryside. Thank you for a glimpse into medicine of the early 1900s.

The story encompasses change for Miriam who is from Chicago as she returns to the little town of Blessing to work as a nurse after the death of her mother. Trygve is a young man she knows and his desire is to court her. Their romance is not a major part of the story, but it is important. There is a lot of dealing with grief in the story; and while handled well, it does seem to overshadow the rest of the story. Strong female characters, including a woman doctor, during a time when women were not expected to do much outside the home and were expected to always take a subservient roll.

My suggestion for readers is to be sure to read the series books in the order in which they are written.

Avoiding Vitamin B12 Deficiency using Vita Sciences Maxasorb Vitamin B12 Cream

There are many vitamin "B's" and our health depends on having a proper balance of them. I learned this growing up.
"B vitamins are a class of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. Though these vitamins share similar names, research shows that they are chemically distinct vitamins that often coexist in the same foods. In general, supplements containing all eight are referred to as a vitamin B complex. Individual B vitamin supplements are referred to by the specific name of each vitamin (e.g., B1, B2, B3 etc.).
Deficiency results in a macrocytic anemia, elevated homocysteine, peripheral neuropathy, memory loss and other cognitive deficits. It is most likely to occur among elderly people, as through the gut declines with age; the autoimmune disease pernicto ious anemia is another common cause. It can also cause symptoms of mania and psychosis. In rare extreme cases, paralysis can result." (source Wikipedia)
When presented with an opportunity to review Vita Sciences Maxasorb Vitamin B12 Cream, I was delighted! I take a daily multivitamin which does, of course, have many of the B vitamins. But I also realize that as a lady-of-a-certain-age it might really benefit me to try additional Vitamin B12. What an ideal opportunity!

I realize that the results of any vitamin consumption on one's overall health only takes place after a sufficient period of time. There is no overnight success! I've been using the Maxasorb B12 Cream for a week now - daily. I apply two pumps to my inner arms, specifically in the wrist area. I scrub both arms together (not using my hands to apply as some would get rinsed off later) to allow the cream to penetrate the skin. It goes on very well. Not greasy. Doesn't seem to rub off on clothing.
I have confidence that this can only be beneficial. It is great not to have "another pill" to swallow. Applying the cream to the skin only takes moments. I am looking forward to using the entire 30-day supply that is contained in this bottle.

Time for a bit of "Spring Daffodils" puzzle fun - enjoy!

Grace of God (movie-DVD)

Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church’s collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly’s views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.

Actors:  John Ratzenberger  (“Cheers,” WALL-E, Toy Story); Erin Bethea (Fireproof, Letters to God); Lorenzo Lamas ("The Bold and the Beautiful," "Falcon Crest")
Genre: Family, Inspirational; Rating:  NR

Review: First, this movie has nothing to do with Easter.  It does talk about the ten commandments, but primarily, “thou shalt not steal.”  The cover is very misleading.  While the story line does cause Detective Broadly to revisit, or resurrect, his opinion and thoughts of God, one should not pick up this movie or watch it with the primary thought that it is going to be about Easter.

Second, while the movie does a good job of showing us that all of sinned and
come short of the glory of God, it shows absolutely no consequences of our sins or actions.  I’m a firm believer in the Grace of God and that it is extended to us when we absolutely do not desire it.  However, I also believe that it is a firm biblical principle that we “reap what we sow.”    Toward the end of the movie and after the church members have found out that more than $30,000 was stolen, the pastor in his message states that he is a thief – he has “stolen” messages and claimed them as his own.  At that point, other members in the congregation begin to stand up and state that they are also “a thief.”  One has stolen some of the church cleaning supplies for their own personal use; someone being paid by the church is misquoting their hours worked in order to get more money and so on.
**** spoiler alert ****
The movie portrayed no consequences for these actions.  But that does not bother me as much as the final confession…and I’m giving away the movie at this point…one of the main characters finally confesses to stealing the money to help their children and the pastor tells them, “we are not going to press charges.”

That’s fine, but the person still gets to keep their job in the church.  Not only that, the Detective ends up giving her the exact amount of money that was stolen because “he had it in an emergency fund and wanted to help.”

Yes, the Grace of God is manifold, but this movie was completely off base.  I showed this movie to our teen group and they immediately said, “So, you can steal, give the money back and God will reward you.”  That is absolutely not the message of God’s Grace.  Yes, the Detective did see his need for God, that he was a sinner just like everyone and wanted to grow closer to God and therefore experienced the Grace of God.  But the ending is a really bad one.  I would not recommend purchasing this movie.  If someone has it and you have the chance to watch it, it’s clean and family oriented and it definitely has a happy ending, but only according to the world’s definition.

This movie was offered to me for review.  I did not purchase it and I’m most definitely glad of that. (guest reviewer P.Howard, pastor's wife)

Jesus Loves Me (Traditional) illustrated by Laura Logan [Review & Giveaway]

ISBN: 9780824919511
There is nothing quite as sweet and beautiful as a little child singing "Jesus Loves Me."

Traditionally one of the earliest songs taught young children, it evokes deep-felt emotion in the heart of the hardest of individuals and touches deep into the recesses of the Spirit.

This sweet children's board book is strong enough to endure much handling, hugging, toting, kissing, dropping - in short, it will get lovingly abused by a little one whose little hands will carry it on many a journey.

As it is being lovingly carried and "read," the little button in the corner will be repeatedly pressed to repeat the tune as accompaniment for that wee little voice singing this favorite - "Jesus Loves Me."

I just love the picture that the use of this little book will create, the truth that will be seeded in the heart, and the joy of a little voice lifted to Jesus.

OZ Naturals' Super Youth Eye Gel Treatment For Dark Circles Puffiness and Wrinkles [Review]

It is so important to take care of one's skin and there are so many products on the market with which you can accomplish this daunting task. Just which should you choose? Should it be an all-purpose product that you simply apply to hands, feet, knees, and toes as well as face, neck, eyes, and elbows? You can, but to get the greatest good for your skin it is wise to diversify a bit.
Oz Naturals has a little pump bottle of a nice eye gel that will help you care for the tender skin around your eyes. Whether they're tired, older eyes or young and bright, it is wise to take care of them. And you want to use a product that will not create problems - white heads, black heads, stinging eyes, etc.
I found that using the Oz Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel my eyes felt good throughout the day. I haven't seen any sign of measurable difference in the dark circles at this point, but they do look pretty decent after a tiring day at work. So the gel seems to be helping. I have not had any issues using the eye gel such as irritating the skin or burning. It works fine for me. My vote is still out as to whether I prefer a cream or a gel for an eye product. This Oz Naturals eye get works very nicely.

How I use it: I clean my face and then apply the eye gel. Next step is serum over all, but not the eyes. Then I follow with a quality moisturizing cream. Each application is allowed to dry before applying the next. Once all this dries, I apply my makeup for the day. Make up works well in conjunction with the Oz Naturals Eye Gel.

Product information (from Oz Naturals)

  • Eye gel for dark circles, puffiness & wrinkles.

  • THIS EYE GEL (not eye cream) is specifically formulated for the delicate skin around your eyes to reverse the signs of aging.

Pre-release Interview with author of Persephone's Fugitive (The Cayman Islands Trilogy) Dianna T. Benson & Giveaway

Occasionally one is given the opportunity to be part of a discovery and then become an encourager of that which you have discovered. I didn't really discover Dianna T. Benson, and I've forgotten how our connection was made, but I did discover her writings. I'm so glad I had an opportunity to be one of her The Hidden Son reviewers. This was her first published book as book one in The Cayman Islands Trilogy. Wow! What a read. If you haven't picked it up and read it by now, then I encourage you to do so.

Then along came her second published book, Final Trimester that released in 2014. Again, a super read filled with suspense and drama, personal interaction, and factual information drawn from Dianna's own EMT experience. Dianna graciously met with a class of high school students at Alamance Christian School (I work there) and they picked her brain real good! What a sweetie to give of her valuable time to encourage these kids in writing and how to get their story down on paper.

Now Dianna has graciously given a bit more of herself to us in the following questions posed by Chat With Vera. And she has also given us another suspense story to crack the spine of and settle in with for a good read. Looking forward to book two in the Cayman Islands Trilogy, Persephone's Fugitive!

Why you are publishing 2 series (sort of switching back and forth) concurrently instead of focusing on simply one at a time?
When my publisher had a sudden opening in their June 2014 release schedule, Persephone’s Fugitive wasn’t yet complete and wouldn’t be ready by September 2013 in time for the typical publishing industry nine months production. So we decided together to release Final Trimester (Book One in the Quigley Triplets Series) to fill the vacancy since I completed it back in 2009.
Where do you feel you have come from since signing for your first contract/book and today as a 3-book published author?
I gained confidence as a novelist when six agents offered me representation in 2007 and even more confidence when I signed with my traditional print publishing house in 2012. But it wasn’t until many months after my first book, The Hidden Son, released in 2013 and all the complimentary reviews and fan mail spilled in and I won the Selah Award for Best Debut Novel that I actually felt like a real author. However, with that comes pressure and deadlines of completing a new book (and just as good if not better than the last one) in less than a year, every year. In the last three years I’ve developed my writing process well to where I can achieve the less than a year timeframe as well as weed in vital marketing tasks (speaking engagements, book signing events, radio/TV/blog interviews, etc.) while I’m in the midst of writing my next book.
What have you gained or learned from being a published author?
In 2012-2013 I realized I knew next to nothing about the distribution process of the publishing industry. But I learned fast, and now I could write a detailed explanation about it.
Every author is different; for me, the toughest aspect of being a novelist is bouncing back and forth between the business side and the writing. In the last three years, I’ve learned how to switch gears between the business side of an author’s life to the actual creative writing side—I never write on the days I have a radio/TV interview, speaking engagement, book signing event, or any other type of marketing task. Whenever possible, I bunch my marketing together in the same week(s) and take that time off writing. On the flip side, when I’m not buried in marketing, then I dig in and focus on writing.
I’ve gained the wisdom of understanding what the character in the movie Cool Runnings meant when he said: “If you aren’t enough without an Olympic medal, you’ll never be enough with it.” I’m a lifelong high-level athlete so the line really speaks to me, especially since my oldest daughter competed at the US Olympic Swim Team Trials for a spot on the 2012 US Olympic Swim Team. But in this case I applied it to my writing…before I had a pending contract offer with B&H (the large traditional print publisher discontinued their fiction department) and before I signed my nine-book contract with my small traditional print publisher, I pondered this question: Am I enough right now without ever being published with a traditional print publishing house? I answered the question with a second question: Would I ever quit writing? The answer to that is no; not only am I not a quitter (I’m one of those people who don’t know how to give-up), my brain automatically develops scenes and dialogue on a daily continual basis, like my respiratory system exhales and inhales each day throughout the day. With this thought in my mind’s forefront, I was able to answer the first question: Since I have no control over the publishing industry, my love of writing and my natural writer brain keeps me writing, no matter what. Most importantly, with my third book Persephone’s Fugitive release March 16, 2015, I’ve learned to keep it all in perspective—as an author of fictional suspense, I’m not saving lives. I’m an entertainer. I leave the saving lives to full-time career EMS crews and firefighters. My goal with my books is to entertain while honoring EMS crews globally.
Thank you, Vera, for hosting me and featuring my newest release, Persephone’s Fugitive.
About the book: When a routine 911 call turns deadly, paramedic Sara Dyer finds herself held at gunpoint by injured prison inmate, Jason Keegan. The situation rapidly spirals out of Sara's control when the confrontation becomes a tense standoff between Keegan and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

As her patient's hostage, Sara fights to save them both before Keegan blows them up. She realizes his warning to the Cayman police is no empty threat since he'd rather die than spend the rest of his life in a prison cell. Sara soon discovers Keegan is just as determined to survive as she is—provided he can escape Grand Cayman and disappear forever. As she struggles to trust in God’s protection, help from an atheist turns her struggle into a lure away from her faith.
