Through the Shadows (Golden Gate Chronicles #3) by Karen Barnett [Giveaway]

The devastating earthquake is just two years past, but the city of San Francisco is still trying to recover. Destruction of this magnitude is not so easy to overcome-and neither are the past regrets shadowing Elizabeth King's hopeful future.

Hoping to right her wrongs, Elizabeth dedicates herself to helping girls rescued from slavery in Chinatown brothels, even if it means putting her own life at risk to sneak through the gloomy alleys and rooftops where dangers lurk.

Putting her life on the line for a worthy cause is admirable. But opening her heart is even more terrifying. So when Elizabeth meets attorney, Charles McKinley--a man who dreams of reforming San Francisco's crooked politics--Elizabeth begins to doubt: Can she maintain her pretense and hide her past? Or will her secret jeopardize both their futures?

  3. I visited Karen's site, tho the link in the Rafflecopter didn't work for me. She wrote Out of the Ruins in 2014, and I'm pleased to know she recently signed a contract with Waterbrook Multnomah!

  4. Her book in 2014 was Out of the Ruins. Since I have enjoyed the first two books of this series and am looking forward to reading this one, I was happy to see that Karen had signed a contract with Waterbrook Multnomah to write a three-book series set in the early days of the National Parks.

    1. I meant to mention that the link doesn't appear to be working. At least, it didn't work for me.

  5. Thanks for posting this, Vera! I'm glad to connect with everyone. :) I checked the Rafflecopter form on this page, and it appears to be working for me. Maybe it's not working for folks going through mobile devices? Sometimes Rafflecopter is tricky that way. Or try another web browser. I usually use Chrome. (By the way--please take OUT my entry...lol!)

  6. Her book she released in 2014 is "OUT OF THE RUINS", and like someone else said, the Rafflecopter link doesn't work for me, and I'm on my desktop computer. I just went straight to Karen's website via my web browser.
I learned she's an Oregon State University graduate & I happen to live in Oregon (on the coast)...woohooo! Another "local" author :-) Karen, I'm so excited for the new one as I have "Beyond the Ashes" on my shelf & can borrow the first one from my library to read. The premise of these stories is fascinating, the San Francisco fire. My husband and son went there last year for a school trip and learned the history. In October of this year, I'll be taking my first trip there with my husband and I'm so excited! Visiting historical places is so fun; it makes what you read come alive :-) Thanks for the chance to win a copy of "Through the Shadows"...as with all the covers, I'm especially loving this one with Charles on the front...I think I'm in love, lol!

    1. "Out of the Ruins" was Karen's 2014 title. I am very impressed that she could dye her teen-age daughter's hair!
