Deadly Encounter by DiAnn Mills
My thoughts: What begins as a homicide investigation soon begin to twist and turn in a convoluted journey far from the singularity of the initial problem.
A lady veterinarian, an FBI agent, a precocious 12 year old brightly intelligent abused boy, and a yellow lab.
Stacy, a caring veterinarian, has taken in the young boy and is seeking to become his real mother. He is super bright and will graduate high school at age 14 with college credits. Stacy genuinely cares for the animals she has in her clinic; and it really bothers her when this sweet, docile yellow lab has a bad cut on the foot. She takes it back to her clinic to be cared for.
Key to the story and the investigation is the neighborhood (low income, run down), a problem with the area water, an outbreak of "flu," and the yellow lab.
As I read the story it seemed as though the incidents and situations go from bad to worse to even worse. Who or what is the cause of the problems? Is it an individual? Is it terrorism? DiAnn Mills has provided a whodunit that will keep the most avid mystery reader engaged until the end.
